Lunar New Year
for the assessment week we were tasked with the goal of creating something to do with lunar new year.
First, I went through Pinterest and Vimeo to gain some inspiration and ideas to aid in my creation. After spending time on those two websites I then came up with the idea of animating a rabbit walking on a rotating moon on Blender. I am also thinking about implementing some 2d animation into the 3D animation as well as my way of challenging myself.
next, I began creating the rabbit. I used a stock side photo as a guide for the stance of the rabbit. next I added a cube and added the subdivision surface modifier to help me produce a low-poly rabbit which I would eventually make High-poly. At the end of the first lesson, after many attempts of trying to create the rabbit. I ended up with a basic low poly render of a rabbit model.
For the next lesson, I began working on a basic rig for my rabbit as it would prove useful later on. I followed the Youtube video below and implemented it into my rabbit. In the end it turned out very well and will prove very useful when I animate the rabbit.
For Thursday, I planned working on the moon as well as the animation. I managed to complete the moon after watching the tutorial below and quickly began working on the rigging and animation. below as well is my process in building the moon.
After several attempts of wondering why the rigging wouldn’t work, I began to animate the moon and the rabbit in a basic video. this would then later be updated to be more stylised and sueful. i began with a simple moon rotation and then went on to the rabbit. I used the image below to help me understand how a rabbit runs which proved extremely useful. Below is what I ended up with.
For the last part of the assessment week, I spent time refining my product by adding red lamps as well as making the rabbit red to fit with the lunar new year colour theme more. I made the lamps hover and float to add more detail and then made the camera pan around. Below is my final render of my assessment. I attempted giving hair to the rabbit but I was unsuccessful in finding a texture that looked realistic and I had problems trying to create a procedural hair texture as it wouldn’t render properly.
